THE DEVILISH TRADE
Shoreham and the Smugglers
Those of you who came to see "Samuel Palmer" last year will be especially pleased to hear that Deborah Lintell has asked us to perform at the Quadrangle again this year. Katie Kingshill has been given some material about a member of the notorious Hawkhurst gang, 18th century smugglers who used the Pig and Whistle at Magpie Bottom as a meeting place. We have the transcript of the trial and conviction and sentence to transportation of one of these smugglers, a Shoreham man (an ancestor of Joss Martin, Gwen Gillham's niece).
So it will be a smuggling play, with Shoreham local colour as before. We have recruited the band, we've got some ideas for lighting - all systems go.
Gates will open at 6pm for picnics in the garden. Parking is free. The production takes place in the great victorian barn and is unaffected by the weather. The address: Quadrangle, Home Farm, Shoreham, Kent
